Wines for a Vegan Christmas

As Christmas approaches, it's time to think about gifts and what to serve at the Christmas table. If you have vegans in your family or close circle, there's fortunately plenty to choose from when it comes to wine, both for the Christmas table and as Christmas gifts. Vegan wines are made entirely without animal-derived fining agents. You can find more information on the subject here.

Vegan wines work brilliantly throughout the entire Christmas meal, even for those enjoying traditional Christmas ham or seafood dishes. Grab these vegan Christmas wines for the whole Christmas feast. We've also selected the best wines suitable as Christmas gifts for vegans. You'll find them at the bottom of the article.

pares balta brut

Welcome Toast

One of Finland's most popular wines, Pares Balta Brut 'b' organic sparkling wine, is also suitable for vegans.

Brut 'b' is made using the traditional method from classic cava grapes Parellada, Macabeo, and Xarel·lo. The taste is fresh, fruity, and balanced.

It's also a versatile cava for tapas, fish and shellfish dishes, and blinis, as well as a great wine for socializing.

With Light Appetizers

Hacienda Lopez de Haro Viura has been custom-made for the demanding Finnish palate.

Viura is still often underrated, even though it can produce fine wines that age and develop beautifully, especially in Rioja. Low yields, properly timed harvest, preventing excessive oxidation, and skillful cellar work are all important. It also pairs brilliantly with fish, shellfish, and white meat.

Hacienda Lopez de HaroViura 75cl
Crudo Catarratto Zibibbo 300cl

With Smoked Foods, Like Smoked Salmon

Crudo Cataratto-Zibibbo comes from sunny Sicily, where the grapes get plenty of warmth and the wine becomes wonderfully fruity.

The Muscat grape is called Zibibbo in Sicily, which gives the wine its abundant aromatics. Cataratto is a native Sicilian grape that brings acidity and structure to the wine. The taste has peach, ripe citrus, and mango notes. The three-liter bag-in-box is generous and works great as a welcome toast as well as for enjoying on its own.

Our second vegan wine recommendation is the always reliable Wolfberger W3! You can find pricing and product information here.

With Vöner Christmas Roast or Other Vegan Christmas Ham

La Mirada is Spanish and means "the gaze." Familiarly known in Finland as the monkey wine, the black bag-in-box features two apes gazing at us from its sides—calmly, thoughtfully, or cheekily—sure to attract attention at the dinner table.

The monkey wine is of Spanish origin and organically produced. The wine has flavors of blackberry jam, cherry, raspberry, and dark chocolate. It also pairs excellently with meat dishes.

Alternatively, we also recommend pairing Vöner Christmas roast or other vegan Christmas ham with delights from the Matsu wine series or the reliable classics Hacienda Lopez de Haro Organic Tempranillo and Baron de Ley Reserva.
