Locally certified wines

In the world of alcoholic beverages, too, people want to make choices that promote sustainable development. For example, organic or biodynamic farming in itself supports biodiversity and the well-being of soil and organisms. But there are also numerous local certifications that take into account things like minimizing water and energy consumption.

Alko also recognizes a growing number of local sustainability certifications. Products that have them are marked with a 'globe symbol' communicating this, and they get a Green Choice shelf talker on the shelf edge.

In the interest of fairness, certain criteria must be met for Alko to approve this status and communicate it further to consumers. Among other things, the certification must be visible on the packaging so that consumers can verify it themselves and, if they wish, obtain more information about it. The certification must also be freely available for any beverage producer to apply for, and it must be country-specific or at least state-specific. In Alko's thinking, at least 50% of the certification requirements relate to environmental aspects. Read more about Alko's criteria and see the current list of approved certifications here.
