Popping up like mushrooms after rain! The saying is spot on, as mushrooms are usually found after heavy rainfall. Could now be a good time to head out mushroom foraging? And what wines pair well with mushrooms?
The finest creations of the mushroom kingdom are prized finds, and the locations of one's mushroom spots are carefully guarded. Many favorites include the beautiful golden chanterelle and the darker funnel chanterelle, which with their mild flavor are also suitable for the beginner mushroom enthusiast.
Mushrooms are light and low-fat food, so many white wines pair well with them. However, you can also create truly filling delicacies with them, so many red wines are also excellent choices! Chanterelle sauce, oyster mushroom soup, funnel chanterelle pie, mushroom risotto… What's your favorite?
Some mushroom species look very similar to each other, so when foraging it's wise to stick to species you can definitely identify. If possible, it's always worth asking a more experienced forager to come along. What could be a nicer way to spend time together!
When mushrooms are sizzling in the pan or bubbling in the pot, we suggest trying at least these excellent candidates to accompany them. Choose yours based on whatever feels right!
