Port wine toddy is one of the most delicious treats of the dark season. By using port wine instead of traditional whisky or rum in a toddy, you create a unique drink that warms the body, mind, and cold hands.
This port wine toddy is enriched with fresh lemon and orange. Its piquant and congestion-clearing spiciness comes from whole cloves and a proper cinnamon stick. Its secret, however, lies in two other ingredients, the first of which is brown sugar. It's significantly better than white sugar due to its toasted and deep flavor profile. And the other secret is Porto Cruz Tawny.

Porto Cruz Toddy
1 dl Porto Cruz Tawny port wine
Freshly squeezed lemon juice, about 1-2 tsp or to taste
Freshly squeezed orange juice, about 1-2 tsp or to taste
1 tsp brown sugar
1-2 cinnamon sticks
Hot, but not boiling water
Orange peel and whole cloves for garnish
Instructions:
Pour the port wine into a toddy glass and stir in the sugar and freshly squeezed lemon and orange juice with the cinnamon stick. Pour hot water over. Garnish with orange peel by cutting a piece about 5 cm long and 1.5 cm wide from the orange peel. Remove the white part so the peel is almost transparent. Place a few whole cloves in the peel and serve the toddy hot.

Choose any bistro in France and you'll almost certainly see this bottle there. This is a basic French aperitif alongside many others. A meal cannot be enjoyed or begun without a glass beforehand or at the start. After a workday, people stop by the bistro for this.
In the French style, this is an aperitif, served chilled. It works wonderfully in moderate sips as a social wine, it accompanies chocolate treats, roasted nuts, sweet fruits, and strong cheeses beautifully.
