Straight from the California Sun
Ironstone wines are an ambitious project by the Kautz family, established in Lodi, California. Cultivation in Lodi began with sugar beets in 1926, and the first grapevines were planted in 1968.
Over the next two decades, the winery expanded to cover 20 square kilometers. Wine production, the visitor center, and an amphitheater used for concerts draw crowds at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains in a village called Murphys, which was an important hub during the California Gold Rush.
The combination of excellent wine, events, and top-notch hospitality defines the estate's operations, even though wine production alone is remarkable in both quantity and quality. Ironstone is one of California's largest family-owned wineries and operates sustainably.

Ironstone Chardonnay
A versatile food wine for white meat, fatty fish, shellfish, and grilled dishes. This Chardonnay is also really delicious with risotto or even a light pasta dish.
Oak-aged Chardonnay divides wine lovers perhaps more strongly than any other wine. Some belong to the ABC (Anything But Chardonnay) camp, while others simply must have a robust, generous glass of oaked Chardonnay—perhaps with lobster—every now and then. And it's not a bad idea at all when you feel like a glass of good wine could lift your thoughts toward a better world.

Ironstone Old Vine Zinfandel
Various meat dishes—pork, beef, or game—are all excellent partners for this wine, especially when grilled. Stews and braises, tomato-based pastas, ratatouille, stuffed peppers, anchovy-olive appetizers, and even a cake rich in dark chocolate pair well with this wine. This fine Zinfandel earns a particularly special place alongside strong-flavored and salty cheeses.
The wine is made from grapes from vines over 45 years old, aged in French oak, and represents the elegance and balance of a long tradition in a wine style that's easily overdone. For a Zinfandel, this is only medium-bodied, and the alcohol content stays at a moderate 14.5%. Nuance is added by Shiraz and Petite Sirah, each contributing five percent. This wine would work well for fireside relaxation, but it's at its best as a food wine.
