Lunaria Wines

Lunaria wines are biodynamic, organic, and suitable for vegans. The wine grapes are grown using natural methods for fertilization and other vineyard management practices. The grapes are gently pressed, after which the wine ferments in stainless steel tanks with natural yeasts at 12-14 degrees Celsius for about 30 days. The wine rests in stainless steel tanks until bottling.

Producer - Cantina Orsogna

Cantina Orsogna was founded in 1964 by a small group of winemakers in Italy's Abruzzo region. It has grown into a cooperative of nearly 500 members, cultivating 1,100 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 432 meters between Majella National Park and the Adriatic Sea. The conditions are ideal for organic farming: sea breezes keep mold away, and temperature differences between night and day produce high-quality grapes.

The producer has both organic-certified and Demeter-certified biodynamic production. Currently, 80 percent of the vineyards are organic-certified. Organic vineyards are gradually being converted to biodynamic. Orsogna also holds the international Biodiversity Friend certification for maintaining biodiversity. All wines are also suitable for vegans, which is indicated on the label. Wine labels and shipping boxes are made from recycled materials.

In keeping with natural practices, only natural cork is used as a closure, and no plastic capsules are used on wine bottles. The corks are secured with naturally made strings, which are tied to the bottles by a local workshop community supporting people with developmental disabilities.

Orsogna also participates in a WWF conservation program. Through this, Orsogna has supported the protection of sea turtles and the recovery of the local wolf population. The WWF conservation program supported by Orsogna changes regularly. Cantina Orsogna is also committed to protecting bees, as bees play a key role in maintaining biodiversity. In Cantina Orsogna's vineyards, they are safe from harmful chemicals and perform their important task of pollinating the vines. Biodiversity is therefore supported in every possible way. The producer has been Demeter-certified since 2005.
