Forest Pig

What should we do? Wash a pig. What pig? Wild Strawberry, of course! And make an easy Forest Pig drink from it, naturally.

The Forest Pig cocktail combines familiar berries from our forests – wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry – along with rosemary for roughness and backbone. The drink is slightly tart and slightly sweet, in just the right proportion. It's perfect for a hot summer day, after sauna, as a dessert drink, and even as a punch. You can use berries from your own (or your neighbor's) garden, or those last berry packages from the freezer from last summer. And best of all, when your glass is empty, you can spoon the delicious and perfectly marinated raspberry pieces into your mouth. Yum!

Metsmaasikas Wild Strawberry liqueur is the beginning and foundation of this drink. The name "Metsmaasikas" is bound to evoke all sorts of cheeky associations in us Finns, but let it be known that this liqueur has a secret. It's not essence-like or excessively sweet in flavor, but rather a refreshingly forest-berry and refined alternative as a base for many drinks, cocktails, punches, and even desserts.

Here's the recipe for one drink. For a larger group, you can whip up a punch by adding the needed amount of liqueur and lengthening it with cranberry juice to your own taste.

Forest Pig

4 cl Metsmaasikas Wild Strawberry

4-6 raspberries

cranberry juice

rosemary sprig

ice

Forest Pig

Here's how:

Muddle the raspberries at the bottom of the glass either with a muddler used by bartenders or even with a spoon. Add the ice, liqueur, cranberry juice, and rosemary sprig to the glass. Stir the drink gently with the rosemary sprig until smooth and enjoy!
