Disaronno Originale is the one and only original bitter almond liqueur, and has been produced with a secret recipe since 1525. The recipe is based on a romantic story about Bernardo Luini, an artist from Leonardo da Vinci’s school of art, who painted a picture of the Madonna in the local church. His model was a young widow, who thanked the artist by preparing a drink with oil extracted from apricot seeds and herbs. Many have tried and still try to imitate the taste of the real Disaronno Originale, but just as with many things, nothing beats the original. The bitter almond aroma comes from apricot kernels. The product does not contain nuts or almonds.
