Pasta Chips and the 3 Best Wines

Are you a pasta lover? How about crispy chips or other savory snacks? Maybe with cheese? Perfect timing, because you can combine all of these with delicious results.

We're talking about pasta chips, of course, which you can make with your favorite seasonings from your favorite pasta. Rigatoni or penne-shaped pasta works especially well, but we certainly won't say no to fun animal-shaped macaroni either. You can make pasta chips exactly how you want, with your own little hands and in your own style. Perfect, especially if store-bought chips feel too salty or your favorite seasoning always seems to be missing. Not anymore!

Pasta chips are incredibly good company for just about any wine, and since you have free rein with the seasoning, there are flavor combinations galore. It's worth keeping the chips' flavor and character in mind when shopping for wine too, since many rosé wines, for example, have the ability to balance the spiciness of food. Crispy treats come into their own even more when paired with the right wine.

We've selected a few wines that pair especially nicely with pasta chips seasoned in different ways. Which one would you grab? Check out the wine tips below the chip recipe.

Pasta chips are easy to make either in an AirFryer or traditionally on a baking sheet. Here's an easy basic recipe!

Pasta Chips

  • pasta
  • cooking oil
  • your choice of seasonings and grated cheese

Oven preparation:

Cook an appropriate amount of pasta al dente, meaning cooked with a slight bite. Drain the cooking water and let the pasta dry. Transfer the pasta to a bowl, mix in a little cooking oil, and add your desired seasonings and cheeses. Hard or semi-hard aged cheeses work best, such as pecorino, Parmesan, grana padano, Gouda, or Emmental.

Preheat the oven to 220 degrees, pour the pasta onto parchment paper on a baking sheet, and bake for about 20 minutes. Keep an eye on the pasta to make sure it doesn't burn!

AirFryer preparation:

Prepare the pasta the same way as in the instructions above, but unlike the recipe, cook it thoroughly (not al dente). The appropriate cooking temperature depends somewhat on the device, but for example, 185 degrees for 7-9 minutes is often suitable.

When the chips come out of the oven or AirFryer, garnish with fresh herbs or add more grated cheese on top if you like. Yum!

And a fifth trick, namely dipping sauces! Try cheese dip, ranch or sour cream & onion dip, salsas, chutney... You can make a vegan version by replacing sour cream with oat fraiche and choosing a vegan dip powder, such as Poppamies' blue cheese dip.

Italian Pasta Chips – Footmark Smooth Red

Italy breathes pasta, so let's let the pasta breathe Italy. Footmark Smooth Red is a good choice when the chips' seasonings include herbs (such as dried thyme), crushed garlic, grated grana padano or other aged cheese, and a pinch of salt. Top it off with fresh herbs, like basil, for example.

The wonderfully soft and round Footmark Smooth Red is a blend of South African grapes, which brings depth and nuance. It can rightly be called smooth, and the full-bodied wine has spicy, cherry jam, and forest berry flavors. A wine suitable for pasta, cheeses, and socializing, it's vegan and has a local eco-certification.
